Jon Bon Party Animal...

Monday, February 8, 2016

It seems Jon Bon was out in San Francisco this weekend for the big game.  He even co-hosted Vanity Fair's Super Bowl Party on Saturday.

From the Asbury Park Press:

Jon Bon Jovi may not have performed on stage at the Super Bowl halftime show, but he was busy working the crowds of at least two Super Bowl parties in San Francisco over the weekend.

The rocker was a co-host of the Vanity Fair party, attended by Alex Rodriguez, January Jones, Amy Adams, Nick and Joe Jonas, Adriana Lima and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Saturday, Feb. 6, according to Vanity Fair.

“It’s interesting that these are the people who got thrown in garbage cans by the jocks, and now they’re partying,” said Vanity Fair contributing editor Kara Swisher to Vanity Fair. The party took place on Montgomery Street in San Francisco’s Financial District.

Earlier in the day, Bon Jovi attended the Fanatic's Big Game Weekend party with Alyssa Milano Shaquille O'Neil, Rodriguez, Robert Kraft, 74 and his 35-year old girl friend, Ricki Noel Lander, 35, and more, according to People.

Wiz Khalifa, fresh off his Twitter war with Kanye West, performed at the shindig.

Just before the game, Bon Jovi appeared in a short Ron Howard-directed film where celebrities talked about their best Super Bowl memories. Betty White, John Travolta, Ashton Kutcher, Larry David, Tyra Bank Lady Gaga and more also appeared in the clip.

Bon Jovi's best Super Bowl memory is apparently the end of last year's Patriots and Seahawks game, won by the Patriots.

And here are some pics I found from the party...

"Coach" Bon Jovi...

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi serving as honorary Shrine Game coach

TAMPA, Fla. -- Give credit to the East team at the East-West Shrine Game this week for assembling one of the most eclectic and diverse coaching staffs in the long history of this event.

It has head coach Charlie Weis, who as of last month was being paid handsomely by two schools not to coach; quarterbacks coach Brady Quinn, Weis' former signal-caller at Notre Dame; and Katie Sowers, a former women's semi-pro football player and Weis' assistant who has been working with the wide receivers.
Oh, and also a former Arena League team owner and one of the most famous rockers of all-time. Yes, Jon Bon Jovi has been roaming the sidelines for the East team all week, decked out in red East-West coaching gear and hardly being recognized by anyone under the age of 40. That's the way he wanted it, leaving town Wednesday night with little-to-no fanfare.
"He really took his duties as a coach seriously," said Tom Reeves, director of game operations for the event and the man called upon by Weis early Monday morning to wake Bon Jovi up for team meetings. "He insisted on keeping his profile low here; he really wanted to concentrate on learning as much as he could about football and soak it all in."
Bon Jovi, who was interested in becoming principal owner of the Buffalo Bills in 2014 after Ralph Wilson's death, was invited by Weis to be an honorary coach this week. Bill Belichick and Bon Jovi are longtime friends, and Weis got to know the singer/songwriter when he was offensive coordinator in New England and Bon Jovi was a regular around the Patriots facility.
On Wednesday, Bon Jovi was part of the chain gang during team drills at the East morning practice. He was too into it to even notice another celebrity, Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, walking his dog along the sideline.

Jon Bon's Giants Secret...

Jon Bon Jovi's secret life on the NFL sidelines

Bon Jovi signingWe know that Jon Bon Jovi is a big football fan. He's friends with a few NFL owners and coaches, his son plays for Notre Dame and he tried to buy the Buffalo Bills last year.

But what is not widely known is that Bon Jovi was a regular on the sidelines of New York Giants games during their 1990 championship season. His exploits as a pseudo photojournalist and Giants fanboy were recently detailed on Giants.com.

Early in the 1990 season, he met Giants punter Sean Landeta in a New York City nightclub and the two concocted a plan to get Bon Jovi on the sidelines during a game against the Dallas Cowboys as a photographer. Bon Jovi wore a camera around his neck, sunglasses and stuffed his hair up under his hat, but his true identity was almost revealed.

“One cheerleader looked at me kind of funny and then was staring at Jon,” said veteran photographer Mike Malarkey, who was in on the plan, according to Giants.com. “And he ran real quick to get some water or Gatorade or something, and she’s staring at me and she said, ‘I know that guy.’ And she was staring at his arm and she saw the Superman tattoo and was kind of catching on."

Malarkey asked the cheerleader not to tell anyone Bon Jovi was on the sidelines.

“When he came back, she was just staring at him and you could tell she was kind of excited. But she kept it a secret," Malarskey said. "That was the only person that caught on as well. Even in the photographers’ room and during halftime, no one had a clue.”

Bon Jovi would attend games during the 1990 season as his schedule allowed. He was in the cross-hairs of coach Bill Parcells at one point.

“I was yelled at by Parcells early on in the relationship,” Bon Jovi said. “But here was the difference-maker: there were rap stars who will go unnamed that were very flamboyant on the sideline at certain NFL games. Parcells yelled at me, and as soon as he yelled at me, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s funny. He’s my Pop Warner coach. I’ve been getting yelled at like this my whole career.’ But it’s: ‘act like a man, put the hair (up)’ and you were looking like an assistant, not a rock star getting on a motorcycle. So because of that, the photographers did the same kind of thing, and that’s how I was able to make friendships. It wasn’t about me. It was about the game.”
The Giants were rolling in 1990 and won their first 11 games en route ot the playoffs. When the team went down to Tampa Bay to play in Super Bowl XXV against the Buffalo Bills, the players found a gift from the rocker in their locker room stalls: a T-shirt with the words “Show No Mercy" written on the front with Giants and Bon Jovi logos on the sleeves.

"We’re all wearing (his) shirt underneath our jerseys,” Landeta said in the article. “I don’t know if you believe in things like that or whatever, but it was a little spark, you know what I’m saying? You say to yourself, ‘Wow, look what he did for us, how he feels about us, how he wants to be a part of this.’”

Bon Jovi was kicked off the field at the beginning the Super Bowl, which featured another Jersey superstar, Whitney Houston, performing the National Anthem in early 1991.

"Security came and they took me off,” Bon Jovi said according to Giants.com. “And Phil Simms said, ‘He has the same pass as I do. He is with us.’ And they said, ‘This is a different story.’ This is the Gulf War. They said, ‘You gotta go.’ And they sent me up to a box.”

Bon Jovi was later asked to come down to the field.

"They’re trotting out to kick the game-winning field goal and I feel a tap,” said Landeta, referring to the game ending field goal attempt by the Bills, which failed. “I turn to my left, and there [(Bon Jovi) is. I’m like, ‘Where have you been? I’ve been looking all over for you … All right, whatever, let’s watch this.’ So we stood there and watched him line up and kick that ball. Fortunately, it sailed a little to the right.”

The Giants won 20-19. Bon Jovi ran out onto the field with the team.

"When the kick went wide, we ran out on the turf, and to have been allowed to do that -- I tried to buy the Buffalo Bills last year. None of this would have happened had it not been for meeting Sean Landeta, when he introduced me to all those people who then I’ve become such good friends with," Bon Jovi said. "Everybody took a knee (after the game). Mr. Young (the general manager of the Giants, George Young) said come on into that dressing room. Before they closed the doors, before anybody got in, when they took a knee, I was there! That was crazy ridiculous for a singer for a rock band from New Jersey."

Jon Bon and the Giants...

Thursday, August 15, 2013

Are you ready for some football?  Jon Bon Jovi apparently is.  He went to Giants practice today.

Jon Bon Jovi hung out with Eli Manning at Giants practice

It has not been confirmed if the rocker rode a steel horse to get to the team’s facility.

It’s been quite a busy week for the New York Giants players.

First they went on a team bowling outing at a Manhattan alley Tuesday night and then received an even bigger surprise at practice on Wednesday. A visit from the man responsible for the most annoying karaoke song ever performed by gaggles of drunk sorority girls, Mr. Jon Bon Jovi.

The New Jersey native, who was invited to practice as a guest of Giants co-owner John Mara, visited with a number of Giants players including Eli Manning and Prince Amukamara.

I assume Bon Jovi was quick to compliment the Giants quarterback on his latest musical success.

Bon Jovi, a former majority owner of the Arena League’s Philadelphia Soul, is a big football fan, making frequent trips to visit good friend Bill Belichick at Patriots practices. In 2011, he was involved in talks to buy 15 percent of the Atlanta Falcons (valued at $150 million) but the deal ended up falling through.

Famous Fin Fan?

Monday, November 7, 2011

From Miami Dolphins website...

Famous Fin Fan: Jon Bon Jovi

Jon Bon Jovi may be best known as the founder and lead singer of rock band Bon Jovi, which was named after him, but there is more to this football fanatic than just music. Bon Jovi was one of the founders and the primary owner of the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. In 2008, they finished 13-3 and won their first ArenaBowl championship, defeating the San Jose SaberCats, 59–56, in ArenaBowl XXII.

Throughout his career, Bon Jovi has released two solo albums and 11 studio albums with his band, which to date have sold over 130 million albums worldwide. The band was declared the second-richest band for 2011, behind only U2. As a solo artist, Bon Jovi has received numerous awards for his work, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for his solo hit, “Blaze of Glory.” He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Monmouth University in 2001. Bon Jovi is also White House counsel; in 2010 he was appointed by President Obama to solve problems in poor communities in the United States.

How far back does your love of football go?

Bon Jovi: I played football when I was young. I started in Pop Warner football when I was little and then played again once I got to junior high school. That’s when I realized I wasn’t big enough for football. In Pop Warner, weight class was the key. I was a little linebacker, the defensive captain. When I didn’t make weight (95 pounds) the day before the first game, they sent me up to the “Midgets” and that weight group was for kids all the way up to 120 pounds! I was too small. So I sat on the bench, hoping to play second-string tackle. Then in eighth grade when I started junior high, I decided, I’ll give it another shot … but it wasn’t happening. Thank God I found music!

What are your earliest memories as a football fan?

Bon Jovi: As a spectator, I can’t remember not being involved in football. My earliest memory is of the Miami Dolphins, Bob Griese and the Miami Dolphins — first losing the Super Bowl, then going back and winning the Super Bowl. I remember writing on my football in chalk — “Griese’s Gang.”

Why were you a fan of the Dolphins?

Bon Jovi: As a kid, the appeal of the Miami Dolphins hit home with me — they were larger than life. I just loved the Dolphins. Griese, Paul Warfield, Mercury Morris, Jim Kiick, Larry Csonka, Nick Buoniconti and the head coach was still Don Shula then. I remember it to this day. I could probably still rattle off exactly where each one of them went to college, what positions they played, their stats — they were my team when I was very young.

Once a football fan, always a football fan, no matter what team you follow. And I should know, I live with two football fanatics, who are fans of different teams. (We root for three different teams, and my beloved 49ers have the best record so of the three!)

It gets a little crazy at the castle on Sundays from the time pre-season starts until after the Superbowl, when withdrawal sets in.

Guess Who...

Monday, September 12, 2011

Was spotted at the Jets/Dallas Football game yesterday.

Yep, Jon Bon was there.  Now, we all know he is just jonesing to buy into an NFL team.  But being that Dallas is a family owned enterprise, I think he's just having a nice conversation with Jerry Jones and just there to enjoy the game.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  No way do I want him to own a piece of Mr. Q's favorite team.  If I had to guess, being that Jon is a Giants fan and he has said on at least one occasion that he is NOT a fan of Dallas, he's wasn't there to try the team on to see if it fit.

Jon Bon and the Atlanta Falcons?

Sources: Jon Bon Jovi in Falcons talks

New Jersey rock star Jon Bon Jovi has been in confidential negotiations with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank in which Bon Jovi would purchase 15 percent of the NFL franchise for $150 million, according to league sources.
Blank on Sunday morning acknowledged the talks but downplayed them as "discussions that are unlikely" to produce a partnership with Bon Jovi. He would not elaborate, except to add that he did not think it was newsworthy at this stage.

Blank is among a select group of owners who have been seeking more minority partners to gain an infusion of cash that in Blank's case will also help him realize his plans to build a new outdoor stadium in the Atlanta area.
Bon Jovi was owner of the Philadelphia Soul, an Arena League team for five years from 2004-2009.

The two sides have signed a confidentiality agreement not to disclose details of negotiations but a league source pegged the financial talks based on a $1 billion valuation of the Atlanta franchise. Each percentage point would be valued at $10 million to arrive at the proposed $150 million on a 15 percent purchase, another source said.
