Tico Torres Helps Haiti...

Friday, January 15, 2010

JUPITER, FL -- Jupiter resident and Bon Jovi band member, Tico Torres, is drumming up support for the youngest of earthquake victims.

The Tico Torres Children Foundation has teamed up with Advant Salud, a health care facility in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and Global Care Delivery, Inc., to help children in Haiti in need of health care services.

This will be an ongoing effort to mobilize doctors, nurses, and supplies both in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The fundraising effort was announced Friday morning at the Jupiter Beach Resort in Jupiter.

Jupiter Beach Resort General Manager Jeff Castner says about 50 resort staff members have loved ones in Haiti.

Castner says many of them are still waiting to hear whether their family members are safe.

Advant Salud's Vice President, Michael Torbio, says their clinic in Haiti is still open and received little damage in the earthquake.

Torres is about to begin his year-long world tour with Bon Jovi.

For now, this effort is his priority and he says 100% of all donations will go directly to Haiti.

"I think what's important is now we see it. How do we help fix it and make it better and my mind's always been for kids. I think they'll change the world so if I can reach out and help children at this point, I think it's important for all of us to pull together," says Torres.

The Tico Torres Children Foundation is a not-for-profit (c) 3 charity developed to assist children in need to fight hunger, disease, homelessness, neglect, abuse, and illness.

Direct donations for children in need in Haiti can be made to:

Vintage Ad... Bon Jovi Hedonism - Jamaica

So, I climbed into the DeLorean this morning and ended up in 1986/87. When MTV was all about music videos and my hair was high enough to hit the top of the car. Yes, Aqua Net was my best friend back then. You can't tell me it wasn't yours too. :)

In my travels, I came across this little gem and thought I'd share.

Did anyone else enter this contest? I did. I dug out a 3 x 5 card filled it out with all the pertinent info and dropped that sucker in the mail. There was no e-mail then. We actually had to put things in an envelope, slap a stamp on it and drop it in the mail box. I don't know about yours, but ours had a little red flag we had to flip up so the postman would know there was mail to be picked up. How times have changed.

Ah well, enjoy this bit of nostalgia.

Some pics from last night:

I found a couple other pictures of Jon with Ray Romano, but they were watermarked all to hell. I was also hoping for a possible Richie sighting, but so far, nothing. Anyone know if he made an appearance?

Bon Jovi at the Grammys...

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

From the USA Today:

Bon Jovi gives fans a say in Grammys

Bon Jovi, whose Grammy Awards performance this year will be his first, will let fans decide which tune the band will play on the show, which airs 8-11:30 p.m. ET/PT Jan. 31 on CBS. Today through 11:59 p.m. ET Jan. 24, fans can visit cbs.com/grammys and select among six hits, voting as often as they like. On Jan. 25, the list will be narrowed to three, but fans can vote right up until awards night.

I'll have to go and see what songs we can pick from. This happens to air on my birthday this year. Do you suppose "Happy Birthday Queenie" is one of the choices?

Memphis Celebrates 100th Performance...

Monday, January 11, 2010

New York City - To celebrate the 100th performance at the hit musical "Memphis," the first 100 people who buy tickets at the Shubert Box Office (225 West 44th Street) on Thursday, January 14 will get the newly released "Memphis" Cast Album. In addition "Memphis" will hold a lottery during the curtain call on Thursday, to invite a special member of the audience and their party to join the cast at Justin Timberlake's Manhattan hotspot Southern Hospitality. A winner will be chosen by a random seat location drawing. The lucky winner will then join David Bryan, cast and crew at the celebrity hangout. All ticket holders for the Thursday, January 14 performance are eligible.

"Memphis" features a brand new score with music by Bon Jovi's founding member/keyboardist Bryan and lyrics by Bryan and Joe DiPietro ("I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change"), who also pens the musical's book. "Memphis" is based on a concept by the late George W. George (producer of the Tony nominated "Bedroom Farce" and the film "My Dinner With Andre"), with direction by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley ("Xanadu") and choreography by Sergio Trujillo ("Jersey Boys").

"Memphis" takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 1950s, a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun (Chad Kimball) fell in love with everything he shouldn't: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer (Montego Glover). "Memphis" is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.

"Memphis" stars Kimball (Huey) and Glover (Felicia) with Derrick Baskin (Gator), J. Bernard Calloway (Delray), James Monroe Iglehart (Bobby), Tony nominee Michael McGrath (Mr. Simmons), and Cass Morgan (Mama).

The company also includes Jennifer Allen, Brad Bass, Tracee Beazer, James Brown III, Kevin Covert, Hillary Elk, Bryan Fenkart, Dionne Figgins, Rhett George, Tyrone A. Jackson, John Jellison, Sydney Morton, Vivian Nixon, John Eric Parker, Jermaine R. Rembert, LaQuet Sharnell, Ephraim M. Sykes, Cary Tedder, Daniel J. Watts, Katie Webber, Charlie Williams and Dan'yelle Williamson.

Tickets for "Memphis" range from $41.50 to $126.50 (including a $1.50 facility fee). The performance schedule is as follows: Tuesday at 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m., Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.Telecharge.com, call 212-239-6200 or visit the Shubert Theatre Box Office (225 West 44th Street). My photo
I am and always have been a Bon Jovi fan. This blog is just my obsession taken a step further, my imagination in high gear if you will. I love to read and decided to see what would happen when I took that love of the written word and ramped it up a bit.
