Happy Anniversary Slippery When Wet...
Thursday, August 18, 2011
Twenty-Five years ago today, a little album entitled Slippery When Wet hit the stands and the rock scene was never the same. It was the first rock album to generate three (3) top ten hits: You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin' on a Prayer (both of which hit number 1) and Wanted Dead or Alive (peaked at #7. The album spent 8 weeks at number 1 and another 30 inside the top 5 on the Billboard charts.
Currently, this album has sold 12 million copies and is the 48th best selling album of all time. It was certified Diamond by RIAA and was the best selling album of 1987 in the United States.
The album also sported two covers, the first being shot down by Jon Bon Jovi has it had a hot pink frame around a fairly well-endowed young woman sporting a modified yellow and black Slippery When Wet T-Shirt.
Jon vetoed this cover when he saw it in full color. (He had only seen a black and white copy up until the night before the album was supposed to be released). At the eleventh hour Jon walked into the photographer's studio, grabbed a black garbage bag, sprayed it with water and wrote (with his finger) the Slippery When Wet cover we all know and love.
The band has said on more than one occasion, that this album was the turning point in their career. Their first two albums did all right, but this one took them from being an opening act to full blown, headlining super-stardom.
They have never looked back.
Are they the critics favorites? Not on your life.
Are they fan favorites? Without a doubt.
One Hundred Thirty million albums sold, concerts in more than 50 countries performed before 34 million fans, I'd say they have been and continue to be one of the best rock acts of all time.
Critics be damned.

Richie on Access Hollywood...
Bon Jovi Rocker & Dad Richie Sambora On Daughter Ava’s Fledgling Acting Career
Richie Sambora’s teenage daughter Ava recently modeled for her Bon Jovi guitar-playing dad’s clothing line, White Trash Beautiful, but she won’t be stopping at the runway.
“I let her do that and now, actually, she’s becoming an actress and she just got a movie,” Richie told Kit Hoover on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live, referring to his daughter’s upcoming part in Judd Apatow’s “This Is Forty,” a spin-off of “Knocked Up.”
“She’s very passionate about it,” Richie added of Ava, his daughter with ex-wife Heather Locklear, and her acting career plans.
While the 13-year-old is ready to kick-start her career, her father, naturally, has some reservations.
“There’s some trepidation as far as me being a little scared about it, but I’m happy for her and she’s really happy and she’s going right into it, man,” he said.
There is one place Richie is ready to put his foot down on, at least when it comes to Ava’s modeling career.
“Lingerie! I think it would be a little bit too much,” he said.
Richie puts limits on his daughter, but he is still cool in his daughter’s book.
“I’m still pretty cool at the moment, but that corner is coming real soon,” he laughed.
In related Richie news, the rocker will head to the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif., this Friday where he’ll be giving 12 autographed – and foldable – guitars to some lucky marines.
“Now the guys [will] have something to do when they’re not fighting,” he said of the gift.

Poll: Most Iconic VMA Performance
Every year the MTV Video Music Awards feature some of the biggest and most memorable performances from all of your favorite artists.
Less formal than the Grammy Awards, the VMAs give artists the opportunity to let their hair down and really go out on a limb to put on some of the most daring and exciting performances of their careers. Simply put, you’re not going to see a blood-soaked Lady Gaga dangling above the stage or a wedding dress-clad Madonna climbing down a cake and rolling on the floor anywhere else.
But Madonna’s star-making turn at the inaugural VMAs and Gaga’s electrifying take on “Paparazzi” are just two of the most iconic moments in VMA performance history. Who can forget when Sting joined Diddy, Faith Evans and 112 to pay tribute to Notorious B.I.G. with “I’ll Be Missing You” in 1997, or when Eminem surrounded himself with lookalikes to perform “The Real Slim Shady” in 2000? And, of course, many are still jealous of a certain python that got to spend a few glorious seconds draped around Britney Spears’ shoulders in 2001.
Narrowing down all of the classic VMA performances to a short list of the most iconic was a major task, but we think we’ve singled out the ten most unforgettable performances in VMA history. Now it’s your turn to tell us which performance is the Most Iconic VMA Performance Ever. Vote after the jump.
Go here to vote. As of right now (Sunday, August 14, 10:30 p.m.) Bon Jovi is in the lead! Read more...

Dirty Dancing... the Remake?
Thursday, August 11, 2011
There are some things you just don't mess with: American Idol with Simon Cowell, Family Feud with Richard Dawson, The Price is Right with Bob Barker. And you simply cannot imagine Dirty Dancing starring anyone other than the late Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle and Jennifer Gray as Francis "Baby" Houseman. It just wouldn't be right.
I have seen several items on the 'net this week about a remake at EW, ABC, and this one.:
Get ready to have the time of your lives...again!
Lionsgate has announced plans to remake Dirty Dancing, the 1987 classic film that starred Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze.
The film company has tapped Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the original's iconic numbers, to direct. Variety reports that the remake will incorporate songs from the original -- chestnuts like "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," "Hungry Eyes" and "She's Like the Wind" -- plus more classic 1960s songs and new tunes.
Set in the 1960s, the first Dirty Dancing took place at a Catskills resort and followed the coming-of-age of teenaged "Baby" (Grey) who falls for a sexy resort dance instructor Johnny (Swayze, who died in 2009) as they work together on a dance routine.
"The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me," director Ortega (who helmed the High School Musical films and Michael Jackson's This Is It) said. "Growing up in the '60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist."

Is there no creative mojo left in Hollywood, that they now have to resort to remaking one of the most beloved films from the 80's?
The movie industry won't be getting any of my hard earned dollars for this project.

Bon Jovi's geography gaffe in Croatia
"It is beautiful here. This is my first time in Croatia. People and architecture have pleasantly surprised me," Jon Bon Jovi told RTL television. However, he had forgotten that he had a concert in Croatian capital Zagreb in June this year. Or he did not know Zagreb was Croatia, too.
Jon Bon Jovi is staying for a holiday in the ancient town of Dubrovnik in southern Croatia.
